This photo was taken during our family visit to the Ark Encounter in Louisville, KY. Stepping inside the life-sized Ark replica was surreal. While we’re unsure if the dimensions match the biblical account exactly, the scale alone made us feel small—physically and spiritually.
In their website, “Ark Encounter features a full-size Noah’s Ark, built according to the dimensions given in the Bible. Genesis 6 states that the biblical ark was 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high. Assuming this was a royal cubit (as was typical for large projects in the ancient world), this converts to approximately 510 feet long, 85 feet wide, and 51 feet high. That’s huge! Learn more on deck one of the Ark.”
The Ark Encounter recreates what it looked like to board the Ark before the Great Flood. We walked through wooden corridors surrounded by displays of animals, tools, and provisions. The gravity of the story hit us hard. It’s difficult to imagine how Noah built such a colossal vessel, let alone how people ignored his warnings. Seeing the Ark up close felt apocalyptic—a reminder of how quickly everything can change.
One of the most unforgettable parts of the tour was the portrayal of God’s justice. It reminded us that while God loves His people, He does not overlook wickedness. The story of the Flood isn’t just about animals marching two-by-two—it’s about judgment, survival, and obedience. Many modern children’s books soften the narrative with cheerful illustrations, but the reality was terrifying. The Ark was a refuge from devastation, not a whimsical boat ride.
This experience left a lasting impression on our family. It deepened our understanding of the biblical account. It also reminded us that faith sometimes means preparing for what others refuse to believe. The Ark isn’t just a story—it’s a symbol of warning, mercy, and divine justice.
